An investigation into the
disappearance and death of 13-year-old schoolgirl Yara
Gambirasio concluded this week - exactly four years after the
day her body was found on February 26, 2011.
The discovery of her remains came four months following her
disappearance from the small town of Brembate di Sopra near
Bergamo.
The defense attorney for Massimo Bossetti, the only suspect
in the crime, was given a 60,000-page summary of the
investigation and notified that it was closed on Thursday.
Bossetti has been in jail since June, when his DNA was
found on the victim's remains.
The 44-year-old construction worker, who has maintained his
innocence throughout the investigation, is accused of aggravated
murder in the killing of Gambirasio, and of slander during
interrogations for accusing a work colleague of the killing.
The investigation summary included the transcript of a
conversation intercepted between Bossetti and his wife during
one of her visits to him in jail, in which she challenges him
about his whereabouts on the night of the killing.
In the transcript, Bossetti's wife, Marita Comi, presses
Bossetti on evidence showing his work truck was in front of the
sports center Gambirasio was in, at the time just prior to her
disappearance.
"You can't drive around there for forty-five minutes,
unless you're waiting for someone," Comi said to Bossetti.
"I don't know, I'm afraid I'm not able to explain it,"
Bossetti responded.
