Pantaleone Mancuso,
considered by police a leading figure in the most powerful clan
of the Calabrian 'Ndrangheta mafia, was extradited to Rome from
Buenos Aires on Friday, ANSA sources said.
Mancuso, 53, is accused of double attempted murder and
mafia association, and was arrested in Argentina last August as
he attempted to cross the border into Brazil on a bus.
The Mancuso clan is considered by police the most powerful
of the Calabrian 'Ndrangheta mafia, operating in international
drug trafficking out of the towns of Limbadi and Nicotera.
Mancuso was flown handcuffed and accompanied by Interpol
agents on an Alitalia flight from Buenos Aires on Friday
morning.
He was taken to Rebibbia prison in Rome following arrest
booking by Italian judicial police at Fiumicino airport.
