A court in the northwestern
city of La Spezia on Thursday sentenced a man to 30 years in
prison for masterminding the kidnapping of a businessman in
2012.
Pierluigi Destri, 70, was found guilty of organizing the
December 16, 2012 kidnapping of Andrea Calevo, who worked at his
family's construction firm.
Calevo was abducted from his home in the northwestern
coastal town of Lerici and held with his legs and arms bound for
two weeks in a basement before police rescued him that New
Year's Eve.
Four other men were found guilty in a separate trial in
January 2014 of the kidnapping for purposes of extortion,
receiving jail sentences of up to 13 years.
A judge sentenced ringleader Davide Bandoni to 13 years
behind bars, with lighter sentences for accomplices Simon
Hailaj, Emiliano Shota, and Fabion Vila.
Destri is Bandoni's uncle.
