Rome finance police on Thursday
arrested 22 people in an operation linked to a big probe into
corruption in the capital. They are among a total of 28 people,
including civil servants, entrepreneurs and professionals, who
are suspected of corruption crimes.
The civil servants work at the technical offices of some
Rome city boroughs and at one of the capital's health
authorities.
They allegedly took bribes of a around 1,500 euros in
exchange for approval of construction permits, in some cases
turning a blind eye to regulation breaches.
The police also conducted searches of 40 different homes
and public offices in Rome on Thursday.
