The Italian doctor who
contracted Ebola while working with a non-governmental
organization in Sierra Leone was in "stable" condition on
Tuesday, doctors said.
The patient was still on an external respirator and his
prognosis was not made clear, the specialists at the Spallanzani
Institute for Infectious Disease added.
The 50-year-old man was transferred to intensive care late
last week after his condition deteriorated with a fever.
The patient, who had worked for medical-aid NGO Emergency,
started treatment with a new experimental medicine brought in
from abroad earlier last week.
As part of the therapy, the patient had also received
plasma transfusions from survivors of the disease.
