The condition of an Italian
doctor who contracted Ebola while fighting the epidemic in
Sierra Leone has improved, Rome's Spallanzani Institute for
Infectious Diseases said Wednesday.
The 50-year-old patient's fever has broken, doctors said.
The Institute added that the patient, who contracted the
deadly virus while working for medical-aid NGO Emergency, has
started treatment with a new experimental medicine
brought in from abroad.
As part of the therapy, the patient has also received
plasma transfusions from survivors of the disease.
