Members of CasaPound
neo-Fascist group prevented Roma kids from going to school on
Friday morning, ARCI cultural association and Eureka! social
cooperative said.
"The witch-hunting climate in our city, fed by
misinformation and sordid political opportunism, has become
unbearable," the associations said in a joint statement.
The Rome city council member for education and equal
opportunity condemned the incidents.
"This is a serious violation of a Constitutional right,"
said Alessandra Cattoi.
"I firmly condemn this base act by a meager group...this
was a vile gesture towards fragile minors who must be protected
and safeguarded," she added.
"The daily work of many associations promoting Roma
education and inclusion cannot be put at risk by those behaving
in racist and xenophobic ways," Cattoi said.
CasaPound, which has been linked to many armed and bloody
confrontations with leftists and minorities in recent years, has
unsuccessfully campaigned for seats in parliament in national
elections.
