Deaths and injuries in
vehicle accidents dubbed "Saturday-night slaughters" have fallen
60.4% in Italy since the year 2000, ASAPS said Friday.
From 2000 to 2012, the total number of weekend night
traffic accident victims fell from 917 to 363.
The traffic safety organization counted accidents that
took place during the 16-hour period from 22:00 to 6:00, on
Friday-Saturday and Saturday-Sunday, involving at least one
driver under age 30.
In the first six months of 2014, there were 121 such road
accidents in Italy, causing 81 deaths and 199 injuries, ASAPS
said. Fifty-six of the accidents took place in the north, 22 in
central Italy and 43 in the south.
