(ANSA) - Milan, September 29 – The Italian government must
be involved in deciding what happens to the Milan Expo site
after the world fair ends on October 31, Environment Minister
Gian Luca Galletti said on Tuesday.
"This is an opportunity not just for Milan and for the
region of Lombardy but also for the country," Galletti said on
Italian Radio Tre.
He said the focus of future plans for the site should be
based on cultural interaction and care for the environment,
continuing the spirit of the world fair.
Expo had shown the "link that exists between food waste,
world hunger and protection of the environment," Galletti said.
He said this was an important step in the year that world
leaders are due to meet in Paris for the United Nations Climate
Change Conference, which starts at the end of November.
He added that Expo had played an important role in bringing
countries together and making them realise that they all have to
do their part and cooperate to tackle global warming and climate
change.
