(ANSA) - Palermo, May 19 - The app ''Appanelle'', which was officially welcomed Saturday at Milan Expo 2015, is active starting Monday. The official presentation called ''Sicilian street food amid myth, reality and innovations'' took place at the Bio-Mediterranean Cluster at the world's fair.
The app was presented by its inventor Alessandro Franchina and colleague Filippo Pelo. Representatives of Uil, the union that strongly promoted and sponsored the idea, also intervened with its secretary general Carmelo Barbagallo, the union's Sicilian secretary general Claudio Barone, the president of Ital Uil Gilberto De Santis, the secretary general of Uim, Angelo Mattone, the president of Uim Sicily and Palermo Giuseppe Franchina.
The free app for smart phones and tablets, available on platforms iOs, Android and Windows Phone, is a virtual guide for all those who love to eat well and spend little, to get acquainted with Sicilian food.
Inside the 'Map of taste', selecting the desired area, it will be possible to navigate through the dedicated areas: venues, typical dishes and traditional markets. It will also be possible to create a profile and participate in a community of social street food, selecting the 'Megghiu'. Or the best venues or street joints among markets, streets, cities and towns in Sicily to offer the web though social media enabling users and operators in the sector to experience something, starting from food.
''As a true Palermo native - said Franchina - I am proud that, though from afar, it is possible to do something to express our excellence and give it as a present to all. Because a sandwich with 'panelle' or 'ca meusa', a plate of 'stigghiola' or 'ficurinnia', an 'agghiacciatu', a 'cannolo' or fried 'vastedda' are much more than street food, they are tradition''.
