(ANSA) - Vatican City, April 14 - The Holy See will have a "minimalist" presence at Expo Milan 2015 with a pavilion costing 3 million euros, Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi, Expo Commissioner General for the Holy See, said Tuesday.
The pavilion covering 300 sqm will be "minimalist, very simple, but also with a heart, in the spirit of Pope Francis," Ravasi said. The president of the Pontifical Council for Culture said the Holy See would have an "exceptional presence" at Expo "because it will not propose initiatives or commercial food products, but rather a message focusing on the two short bible quotes 'Not by bread alone' and 'Give us this day our daily bread'." The pavilion has been funded by the Holy See, Italian Bishops' Conference and Milan archdiocese in equal parts to a total of 3 million euros. Visitors can admire two artworks, Tintoretto's Last Supper from the church of San Trovaso in Venice and a Flemish tapestry designed by Rubens from the diocesan museum in Ancona. "The pavilion is already ready," Ravasi said.
"We don't want to be too smug: the pavilion is much less complex and much more simple than others that have required interventions of a different order," he said.
