(ANSA) - Parma, January 22 - The Barilla Centre for Food and Nutrition (BCFN) on Thursday presented the Milan Charter featuring an Italian proposal for a global food agreement that will be illustrated at the Milan Expo trade fair.
The Charter was being presented at the first Food Tank Summit in Washington, organised in collaboration with George Washington University. This groups 75 international leaders in the food and agriculture sector for a global round table to discuss new agreements on the theme of sustainable agriculture.
With contributions from institutions, the academic world, civil society and the private sector, the Milan Charter traces guidelines that the Italian government will follow to promote a more sustainable world food system during Expo 2015, which will take place in Milan from May to October.
The final version will be submitted to the UN secretary general during World Food Day October 16, and will be titled "Nourishing the planet, energy for life" - like the world's fair.
The Milan Charter takes into account the Milan Protocol, the first proposal made by the BCFN at the end of 2013 offering solutions for the biggest global paradoxes on food and nutrition.
