Despite increases that took Italy's
employment rate up to record levels last year, the proportion of
Italian people in work is still some way behind the EU average,
according to Eurostat data.
It said that Italy's employment rate for people aged 20 to 64 in
2023 was 66.3%, almost 10 percentage points lower than the EU
average of 75.4%.
The figure for women was especially low, with 56.5% of females
in this age range in work, compared to an EU average of 70.2%.
The employment rate for males was 76%, compared to a European
average of 80.5%.
