Italian industrial production shot
up 1.7% in January with respect to December, ending a run of
four consecutive month-on-month falls, ISTAT said on Friday.
The national statistics agency added, however, that
production was 0.8% down on the same month last year, according
to calendar-adjusted data.
It said the rise was driven by the energy sector, which saw
production rise 6.4% on December and 11.7% on January 2018, in
part because temperatures were lower than a year ago.
Despite January's rise, ISTAT said that the November
2018-January 2019 period was the worst three months for
industrial production since the equivalent period in 2012-2013,
with output down 1.8%, compared to 2.2% six years ago.
