The Milan stock exchange's
FTSE Mib index dropped by 2% to 16,129 points in early trading
on Monday - losses that were in line with those sustained
elsewhere in Europe.
Bank stocks were under particular pressure.
UniCredit shed 4.3%, BPM was down 3.4%, UBI lost 3.3% and
Intesa lost 3%.
Troubled bank Monte dei Paschi di Siena (MPS) was 0.7%
down ahead of a board meeting with new CEO Marco Morelli.
