Italian stock-market regulator
CONSOB is staging an inspection at the Milan offices of
investment bank Mediobanca with the help of the finance police
in relation to a takeover bid for RCS, the publisher of top
newspapers Corriere della Sera and La Gazzetta dello Sport, ANSA
sources said Monday.
Andrea Bonomi's Investindustrial, Tod's magnate Diego
Della Valle, Unipol Sai and Pirelli are also part of the
consortium bidding to take over RCS.
The sources said that the inspection has been ongoing for
several days.
The takeover bid is a counter offer to the bid launched
for RCS by Urbano Cairo, who controls the La7 TV network and is
the chairman of Torino soccer club.
The inspection may be seeking to shed light on the three
holding companies specially set up by Bonomi in Luxembourg for
the operation and information flows in the run-up to the bid.
