Federico Ghizzoni on Tuesday agreed
to step down as CEO of UniCredit.
The bank's board of directors held a extraordinary meeting
to discuss changing top management.
UniCredit shares jumped 4.9% to close at just over 3 euros
a share on the expectation Ghizzoni was on his way out.
The CEO on Monday contradicted media rumors he might step
down after the Financial Times and the Wall Street Journal both
reported the UniCredit board is seeking a new CEO from outside
company executive ranks over shareholder discontent with current
management.
Ghizzoni is to stay until he can hand over the reins,
sources said.
