Italian growth "has been very
weak for a long time," Gian Maria Milesi Ferretti, deputy
director of the IMF's research unit, said Tuesday. "And we've
just come out of a long recession," he went on. "The prospects
are for a relatively modest return to growth. Italy's public
debt is a still very high. With low growth and low inflation it
is difficult to bring the debt down even if the deficit is low".
