The Milan bourse closed 2.45% down
Thursday with the FTSE-MIB index tumbling to 16,818 points,
below the psychologically important 17,000-point threshold as
banking stocks once more took a pounding.
MPS lost 8.09%, Banco Popolare 7.55%, Ubi Banca 6.27% and
Unicredit 5.92%. Several banking stocks were suspended during
the course of the day for excessive losses.
The Milan bourse was the worst-performing in Europe.
