Some 60.2% of people in Italy -
34.5 million - use Internet according to the 2016 edition of the
'Noi Italia' report from national statistics agency ISTAT
published Thursday.
This compares to the EU average for 2014 of 75%, putting
Italy third from bottom after Bulgaria and Romania.
Broadband access is also below the European average, ISTAT
said.
The use of Internet is strongly linked to geographical
location, with above-average percentages in northern regions,
and to age, with the percentage of users falling away steadily
after the age of 24.
With the exception of young people, Internet use is
strongly characterised by gender differences.
