Giovanni Bazoli, the chairman
of the supervisory board of Intesa Sanpaolo, on Friday ruled out
the possibility of Italy's biggest bank acquiring another
domestic lender. There has been speculation that Monte Paschi di
Siena will merge with another Italian bank after failing the
European Central Bank's stress tests. The ECB said MPS has a
capital shortfall of around 2.1 billion euros to fix. "We are
certainly not interested in buying other banks on the domestic
scene," Bazoli said.
