The Commissioner General for Italy at Expo 2025 Osaka, Ambassador Mario Vattani, has taken part in a hearing of the Conference of Regions and Autonomous Provinces.
Vattani illustrated the project for Italy's participation at Expo 2025, showing the plans and images of the Italy Pavilion designed by Mario Cucinella to Governors and Representatives of all of the Italian Regions.
Vattani highlighted the exceptional opportunity that the next Universal Exposition, which is going to take place in Osaka from April to October 2025, offers to the Italian System.
"Expo Osaka 2025 will be a great showcase for our regions and for our companies which, from Japan, will be able to get themselves better known throughout the Asia-Pacific area, a fast-growing region of the world which can be an important opening for our economy," explained Amb. Vattani.
The next Expo is forecast to attract almost 30 million visitors, including four million tourists from the main Asian markets: China, South Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam and the whole ASEAN area. It will be a key occasion for our export system: recent research carried out by the Polytechnic University of Milan has estimated the potential expansion of Italian exports to the area up to 20%.
The Italy Pavilion project which has been designed by Architect Mario Cucinella will give a contemporary reinterpretation of the Ideal City of the Renaissance, putting the focus on the three characteristic elements of the Italian city: piazza, theatre and garden, revisited as crucial places for the city of the future.
Vattani, then, illustrated the potential strength of the large space devoted to the Regions, that is possible to use as a venue for shows, exhibitions and events. The space can also be combined with the nearby Theatre stage and can be experienced remotely online as well.
Through the Italian Pavilion, from its exhibition areas to the restaurant located on a splendid roof-terrace that is going to be surrounded by a contemporary version of the Italian-style garden, it will be possible to have a multiple and diversified vision of the story of each region. The Italian historical, territorial, cultural and technological treasures can be presented to the world in a broad, united way, and experienced as an active narrative that responds to the needs of people visiting Expo 2025 Osaka.
The success of the recent missions to Japan of the Puglia and Emilia-Romagna Regions confirm the great interest in Italy, from its technological excellence to culture and gastronomy.
"Thanks to Expo 2025, our Regions will be able to consolidate their image in this area of the world, showcasing their strategic sectors, implementing activities to boost their companies' international profiles and promoting their territories and areas of excellence," said Vattani. "This is a unique opportunity that cannot be missed". A great deal of interest was expressed by all the representatives of the Regions participating in the event, so that they will soon start to coordinate activities including the ones at the Conference of Regions.
