The yield on Italy's 10-year BTP bond hit the 2% mark for the first time since May 2020 in early trading on Wednesday before dropping back to 1.97%.
The markets coming to terms with the European Central Bank scaling down its bond-buying programme is one of the factors behind the recent increase in the yields on Italy's State paper.
The spread between the BTP and the German Bund was 166 basis points, up one point.
