Italian daily La Repubblica
reported on Tuesday that the city of Nettuno south of Rome chose
a "neofascist, historical revisionist, extremist movement
sympathiser" to organise cultural events celebrating the 75th
anniversary of the Allied landing on January 22, 1944.
It said Pietro Cappellari has written books critical of the
liberation and praising the late WWII Nazi puppet state, the
Mussolini-led Italian Social Republic.
Lazio Governor Nicola Zingaretti said the region "has asked
for clarification on the initiatives necessary to overcome this
unfortunate circumstance".
