Italian President Sergio
Mattarella praised the friendship between Italy and Germany on
Friday during a visit to the Italian embassy in Berlin, where he
met some representatives of the Italian community in Germany.
"The relationship between Germany and Italy is ensured in
large part by your presence in Germany," he told them.
A spokesperson for German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who will
meet with Mattarella on Friday, said at a press conference that
Italy is a "very important partner for Germany" and that contact
with Italian Premier Giuseppe Conte is "very close".
The spokesperson said Merkel is pleased to meet with
Mattarella, but did not disclose information regarding the
topics to be discussed.
