Travellers could face disruptions
in Italy on Friday as a result of a general strike called by
grassroots union USB involving all branches in the public and
private sectors.
However, rail company Ferrovie dello Stato has said the
Frecce high-speed rail service will operate to schedule until 9
pm local time.
On the national rail network disruptions should be limited,
while regional services will be guaranteed during peak hours.
The rail link between Termini station and Fiumicino airport
is guaranteed.
USB is protesting against the 2018 budget law, which
"explains better than all else the reason for the strike:
spending review, namely new cuts for social services, money and
tax breaks for companies, nothing in favour of income and stable
employment".
Instead air traffic controllers represented by the unions
Filt Cgil, Fit-Cisl, Uilt, Ugl-Ta and Unica have postponed their
nationwide strike scheduled for Friday, while local protests at
Fiumicino and Brescia airports are confirmed between 1 pm and 5
pm.
