Italy's public debt hit a new high
of 2.278 trillion euros in May, 8.2 billion euros higher than
May. At around 132% of GDP, Italy's public debt is the
second-biggest in the eurozone after Greece's. Under EU
treaties, Italy must progressively reduce its debt-to-GDP ratio
to 60%.
