Premier Paolo Gentiloni's
government on Friday approved a decree that reintroduces the
obligation for food labels to state the plant where the item was
produced and packaged. The obligation had existed in Italian law
but was scrapped following EU legislation on food labelling. The
agriculture ministry said Italy has decided to reintroduce it to
provide information to consumers and make it easier for the
authorities to trace food production chains.
