Italian Premier Matteo
Renzi, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President
Francois Hollande on Monday visited the grave of one of the
founding fathers of the EU, Altiero Spinelli, on the island of
Ventotene south of Rome.
The trio laid three bouquets of flowers in the EU colours,
blue and yellow, before standing in silence for a few minutes.
A helicopter which had taken them to the island from Naples
then took them to the Garibaldi aircraft carrier moored off the
island, where a three-way summit is set to take place.
