A total of four Chinese policemen
patrolled tourist areas in Milan and Rome on Tuesday along with
their Italian counterparts in the Carabinieri and police forces.
Two Chinese nationals have been deployed in each city for
two weeks and are tasked with helping fellow Chinese with
information and aid.
They carry no service weapons and are authorized to
intervene solely by communicating information to their Italian
colleagues.
"This project reinforces the concept of proximity
policing," said Carabinieri Colonel Canio Giuseppe La Gala. "It
will help increase security in tourist areas".
The joint policing project "consolidates cooperation
between our two countries," said Milan Police Commissioner
Antonio De Iesu.
