An expert witness for the
prosecution told a Milan criminal court Monday that Apple has
refused access to the phone and email data of defendant
Alexander Boettcher, who is on trial for a November 2014 acid
attack that disfigured university student Stefano Savi.
"Apple is not allowing us to fully access the phone and to
have all the data at our disposal," expert witness Mattia
Epifani told the court.
Former real estate broker Boettcher and girlfriend Martina
Levato, an ex-student at Milan's private Bocconi University, are
already serving 14-year sentences for a December 28, 2014, acid
attack on Levato's ex-boyfriend Pietro Barbini, who risks losing
the use of his right eye and was left with third-degree burns to
his face and body.
Also on Monday, the court heard that Boettcher had branded
Levato numerous times - including on her genitals - because as
he told her during an online chat "the master must brand his
livestock".
Prosecutors say this chat and other photographic and video
material found on the defendant's phone and personal computer
are evidence of "pure sadism".
