The father of a 24-year-old
autistic woman admitted as a Democratic Party (PD) candidate to
Rome's March 6 mayoral primaries said on Friday that his
daughter's candidacy aims for a "turnaround" in social welfare
for the city.
"We must avoid isolation," said Maurizio Ferraro, father of
Chiara Ferraro.
"With the primaries a democratic principle is affirmed.
Regardless of the result, a step ahead has already been
achieved".
Ferraro's father brought about a thousand signatures to PD
headquarters on Thursday, requesting a symbolic candidacy for
his daughter; however, PD's committee for mayoral candidate
Roberto Giachetti and PD Rome Commissioner Matteo Orfini agreed
to admit Chiara as an actual candidate.
She was presented on Friday along with Giachetti and the
four other candidates for Rome mayor: Roberto Morassut,
Gianfranco Mascia, Stefano Pedica and Domenico Rossi.
