The Milan stock exchange took a
further tumble early Monday afternoon, with its main FTSE Mib
index shedding 3% to well under 17,000 points.
Trading was briefly suspended on several stocks due to
excessive volatility, including Unicredit and Intesa banks and
private broadcaster Mediaset.
Carige bank slid 9%, while Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA)
and Montepaschi di Siena (MPS), which led the morning's losses,
both shed over 7%.
UBI Banca lost 6%, Poste Italiane fell by more than 5% and
Telecom Italia by over 4%.
Electricity utility ENEL and insurance company Generali
instead held up.
