Vatican spokesman Father
Federico Lombardi said Wednesday the pope may well visit
Auschwitz during a trip to Poland in July.
Popes John Paul II and Benedict XIV visited Auschwitz,
Father Lombardi said in remarks at the launch of Alberto Mieli
and Esther Mieli's book We Were Jews (Marsilio Editore
publishers) held at Vatican Radio headquarters on International
Holocaust Remembrance Day.
"I think that a trip by the current pontiff will also
become reality," he said.
Both those popes and Francis have visited the Yad Vashem
Holocaust victims memorial in Jerusalem, he added.
