ISIS has claimed responsibility for Wednesday's shooting of Piero Parolari, an Italian missionary in Bangladesh, the SITE intelligence group reported on Thursday. The missionary, who is also a doctor, was injured in the attack but survived. The 50-year-old works in the city of Dinajpur, in the north of the country. ISIS also claimed responsibility for the September murder of Cesare Tavella, an Italian aid worker shot while jogging in the diplomatic quarter of Dhaka.
The Bangladeshi government dismissed the claim, saying opposition forces that wanted to cause instability were behind it and the murder of the Japanese citizen five days later.
Last month Bangladeshi police arrested four people suspected of involvement in Tavella's murder.
