Pope Francis wants to
start the special Jubilee on Mercy during his pastoral visit to
Africa this month, Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi
said Monday.
"Pope Francis wants to speak of mercy and the love of God
also to African peoples and to those most sorely tried,"
Lombardi said, "that's why the idea of starting the Jubilee in
Africa as well as in Rome was born. It is an anticipation for a
continent that extremely needs it.
"The trip to Africa was very much wanted by the pope to go
and bear witness in a continent very much loved by the Church
but that lives through problems, conflicts, hatred and violence,
