Rome's famous Trevi Fountain was turned back on Tuesday after months of restoration work drew to an end.
The fountain returned to action with new illuminations.
The renovation, which began in June last year and cost more than 2 million euros, was financed entirely by fashion house Fendi.
During the 17 months of restoration work, the city's largest baroque fountain still managed to attract 3 million visitors. A panoramic gangway was set up to allow people to admire the structure.
Fendi said in a statement that the gangway, and transparent paneling, had made it possible for visitors "to physically enter into this artistic masterpiece of international renown, and to get closer than ever before".
