Premier Matteo Renzi has said that Italy is overcoming years of sterile attrition and is taking back a role as a lead player on the international stage during his tour of Latin America. "After years of controversies, debates and big rows about our role, Italy is back and wants to be a lead player again," Renzi told a meeting of the Italian community in Lima, Peru. "We are conducting the necessary reforms, which have brought a return to growth and an increase in the number of people in work. Our love for ourselves up too". Renzi also spoke about international development, saying that his government is reversing the trend to cut funding to development aid and cooperation.
"Development cooperation funds will start going up again - 120 million this year, 240 next year and 360 the year after".
