Local authorities have forced a
vandal to use his own means to clean up graffiti he left on the
walls surrounding an old abbey in Casamarciano near Naples in
southern Italy.
Surveillance cameras had recorded the vandal stepping out
of his car and leaving his tag along the Belvedere of Santa
Maria del Plesco, an area which hosts an annual theatre festival
and has recently been restored.
After tracing him using the video surveillance system, the
local council decided not to officially report him but to demand
that he clean off the tag himself.
"The defence of the most beautiful places in our country
starts with the respect and civility of citizens, but when one
of these elements are lacking you have to intervene with
suitable means," said youth councillor Angelo Piscitelli.
