Pro-life organisation ProVita on
Tuesday filed a complaint to Milan prosecutors against an
association facilitating the use by Italian heterosexual and
homosexual couples and singles of surrogate mothers sourced
through an Italian intermediary in the United States.
The association said it had already received "death
threats" for its action against the American association behind
the practice that allegedly costs on average 100,000 euros per
child.
ProLife made the announcement during the presentation of
amendments by the Area Popolare group of small centrist and
Catholic parties to a bill on civil unions currently before the
Senate justice commision.
These include making surrogacy - which is outlawed in Italy
- a universal crime to enable prosecution within Italy of its
practice overseas.
