Shares in Tuscan lender Monte dei
Paschi Siena rose 4.4% Friday amid rumours - categorically
denied - of a future merger with Intesa Sanpaolo and Unicredit,
Italy's two biggest banks. Intesa was up 2.2% and Unicredit 1.7%
up, in line with the FTSE Mib, which showed a gain of 1.8%.
Intesa CEO Carlo Messina denied the reports, after all three
banks had done the same.
