An excellent wine harvest in
Italy this year is estimated to produce as much as 27 million
hectolitres of wine in all, or 12% more than the 42 million
produced last year, winegrowers said Friday.
The forecast, based on figures for harvesting at the end
of August and first 10 days of September, was made by the Union
of Italian Wines and agriculture agency Ismea, with the
collaboration of the agriculture ministry.
If confirmed the output would make Italy once again the
world leader in production of wine.
