Heavy rain fell across
the southern region of Calabria for the second day running on
Thursday as fire fighters continued to evacuate flooded
buildings and remove fallen trees.
Areas along the southern Ionian coast were particularly
badly affected by the stormy weather, sources said.
In Cosenza a tent amp housing approximately 250 ethnic Roma
including around 100 children and several elderly people was
flooded.
The local official responsible for the camp, Alessandra De
Rosa, apologised to residents Thursday.
"It was not our intention to move you here for you to be
worse off than in the shacks," De Rosa said.
