A Tunisian under house
arrest demanded to be thrown in prison Wednesday on the ground
that he couldn't stand being cooped up with his wife and
children, police said.
The 40-year-old north African made the unusual request to
Carabinieri paramilitary police with his bags ready packed to
leave when they arrived at his home.
Officers explained that they couldn't put him in jail
without an order from a judge, whereon the man threatened to
harm his wife and children and to jump off his balcony if his
pressing demand was not met.
In the end after consulting with a magistrate the
Carabinieri were able to satisfy the man from the Maghreb by
arresting him again on charges of "threatening a public
official" and he was duly escorted into a Florentine jail to
enjoy some peace and quiet.
