Ireland and Italy are set to hold
an event focusing on world hunger and attended by U2 frontman
Bono and Italian Premier Matteo Renzi at Milan's Expo world fair
on September 6, Italy's agriculture ministry said on Thursday.
The initiative, supported by the World Food Programme (WFP)
is part of the aims Italy has set with Expo organisers to try to
combat world food poverty, the agriculture ministry said.
All 140 countries participating in the Expo are invited to
take part in order "to strengthen and stabilise funding for WFP
operations", the ministry said.
The WFP is part of the United Nations system and is the
world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger, and
supplying emergency food aid to people affected by war, civil
conflicts and natural disasters.
WFP Executive Director Ertharin Cousin will also attend the
Expo event.
