Convicted child murderer Luigi
Chiatti is still dangerous and needs to remain in psychiatric
custody for at least another three years after he finishes
serving 30 years in September, a surveillance court judge in
Florence said Wednesday.
A Perugia appeals court ruled Chiatti, 45, needed to be
treated at a psychiatric facility after serving his sentence.
In 1997, the supreme Cassation Court upheld a 30-year
prison term for Chiatti, a surveyor in the Umbria town of
Foligno who kidnapped and murdered four-year-old Simone
Allegretti and 13-year-old Lorenzo Paolucci in 1992 and 1993
respectively.
A court of first instance in 1994 had sentenced Chiatti to
life, which was reduced to 30 years on appeal after he was
declared mentally unfit.
