Italian police arrested three
suspected human traffickers on Wednesday, two in the Sardinian
capital city of Cagliari and another in Sicily's capital
Palermo.
In Cagliari, police took a 24-year-old from Tunisia, Lahmar
Ali, into custody, together with a 17-year-old from Senegal.
The men allegedly piloted two boats carrying a total of 448
migrants who were rescued by Spanish military ships off the
coast of Libya on Tuesday.
Meanwhile in Palermo, police arrested 24-year-old Bairam
Ltayef, also from Tunisia, suspected of captaining a boat that
departed from Libya carrying 647 immigrants who were rescued
Tuesday by an Irish ship in the Strait of Sicily.
