(ANSAmed) - IZMIR (TURKEY), MAY 21 - The Milan Expo 2015 has been presented in Izmir, where the ancient city Smyrna once stood and which has historic ties to Italy. The event included the signing by local officials of the Milan Charter on the right to sustainable food and ended with a concert of music by Antonio Vivaldi in Saint Mary's Church in the presence of the Italian consul to the city, Luigi Iannuzzi.
The presentation was organized by the Italian consulate in Izmir, Expo Milano 2015, the Izmir Chamber of Commerce and SunExpress, an airline that recently inaugurated direct flights from the city to Milan and Rome. ''Expo lasts six months,'' the consul said, ''but even if it has already been inaugurated, we must keep its themes in mind for the entire duration. This is why it is important that the Milan Charter was signed today in Izmir, which symbolizes Italy's commitment to the crucial theme of sustainable food. I am also especially happy that the concert was held, since music is one of the things that best illustrate Italy's character, and it unites us all.'' The concert was directed by the Italian Nicoletta Olivieri, director of the Izmir Opera choir. Expo Milano was presented to representatives of the governorate and mayor by Alina Arat, head of international marketing and promotion, and a video was screened that illustrated the Turkish pavilion, the structure of which symbolizes various aspects of Turkey.
