(ANSA) Pompeii, March 3 - A judge ordered the dismissal
Tuesday of indictments on charges of fraud against 10 staff
members of the Pompeii archaeological site after the case timed
out due to the statute of limitations.
The 10 including Pompeii city manager Luigi Crimaco were
sent for trial 5 years ago on charges of bilking hundreds of
thousands of euros from the state in payments for fake training
courses the custodians from Pompeii and Herculaneum said they
were attending.
In addition to the so-called "ghost courses" case being
closed, the judge also ordered that the sum of 531,842 euros
seized from Crimaco five years ago, as compensation to the
office of the Pompeii superintendency of cultural heritage, be
given back to Crimaco.
