Italy has beaten France,
Germany, Spain and the UK in terms of its primary surplus for
the past 20 years, the Treasury said in a tweet on Tuesday.
Primary surplus is the government budget surplus excluding
net interest payments on public debt.
The tweet with the new hashtag #prideandprejudice is one of
six that will be sent by the Treasury through Sunday containing
data about the Italian economy to counter "prejudice within and
outside national borders".
The initiative comes as Italy is struggling to emerge from
its longest post-war recession and finds itself once again under
scrutiny over its public finances.
